Injury on the Haiku Stairs: A Rescue Operation by HFD

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded to a rescue operation involving a hiker injured on the infamous Haiku Stairs, also known as the “Stairway to Heaven” or the “Stairway to Hell.” The incident occurred on October 6, 2024, involving a 22-year-old woman who sustained a lower leg injury while hiking.

According to reports, the woman was hiking when she encountered difficulties, resulting in her injury. HFD rescuers quickly mobilized and successfully located her within thirty minutes. Utilizing aerial support, the rescue team was able to airlift her safely down to the ground, where she could receive the necessary medical care.

It is important to note that the Haiku Stairs trail is considered illegal for hiking due to the deteriorating condition of the stairs, which poses significant safety risks. The trail has been marked as dangerous, and the city has designated certain areas as private property, making access to the trail a form of trespassing.
